Why we built it

The billing software an Indian small business is offered tends to come in two sizes. Either it is full accounting software — ledgers, inventory, a training curve, and a price that assumes an accounts department — or it is a free app that produces a PDF with a watermark and no idea what Rule 46 says.

A shop owner billing thirty or forty customers a month is in neither group. They need the tax split to be right, the serial numbers to be unbroken, the PDF to look like a real company sent it, and the whole thing to take less than a minute on the phone in their pocket. That is the entire brief.

BahiSathi started life as AY Quotation, which did one job. Once it grew invoices, credit notes and GST returns, the name no longer described it, so it was renamed rather than stretched. Same app, same team, same data.

How we decide what to build

One test, applied to every proposal: does it reduce the time it takes to create and send a document? A feature that does not is not a feature, it is clutter, and it does not ship. That is why there is no dashboard full of charts, and why most screens have exactly one primary button.

The tax arithmetic is the one place we are inflexible. The same engine runs in the Android app, the web app and on the server, and it is checked against a shared set of fixed test vectors — because a rounding difference between two clients is not a bug in an app, it is a wrongly-taxed legal document.
